I’m a freshman at USC and I’m studying exercise science with a focus in motor development (the ultimate goal is to become an Occupational Therapist). I am from Long Island, New York and I love it here in Columbia, but I really love where I came from. My first crossfit workout was at my home gym, Crossfit Rapture, a little over 2 years ago and I was instantly hooked on it. I always loved working out, but crossfit took it to a new level.
Before I came to Columbia in August, I did a lot of research on gyms in the area and I decided CCF was the best spot to go. Ever since the day I stepped foot in everyone has been super friendly and there is a great sense of community in the gym.
One thing people don’t really know about me is that I run to the gym and home almost every day, it’s a nice warm up and it clears my head after classes all day, and running home is the perfect cool down for me.
The music you can find playing in my car is kind of unpredictable, I usually let other people in the car choose it.
I’m currently working towards eating the right foods that will fuel my body. In my training, I’m always working towards perfecting my form on different movements and I really want to start training to do a half marathon, I think that’d be fun.
My most memorable workout from CCF is probably one of the very first ones I did here and it had wall walks, burpees and a run in it (probably other things I don’t remember exactly). I remember doing the wall walks thinking about how hard they were and how much I was putting into them, but at the same time (as cheesy as it sounds) I was so happy to be there I couldn’t stop smiling. I also did my first balance workout Friday and that was pretty memorable because my legs were so sore I couldn’t feel them the next morning after doing the GHD sit ups!!
I think my greatest accomplishment was getting pull ups about a year ago.. When I first started crossfit I was in okay shape from playing sports all my life, but I definitely couldn’t do one pull-up. I think once I was able to do them, it was a big accomplishment and made me realize how much stronger I actually got. Another big one for me was finally getting double unders over the summer!! I couldn’t do them for the longest time and I would practice them every chance I got until I could finally do them. It was totally worth all the whip marks on my arms/legs.
I would tell someone who is interested in training with CCF is to go there!! It is one of the best decisions you can make for your health. The coaches and athletes of CCF are extremely welcoming and will always help you to make a better you. I think the reason I love crossfit so much is because anyone and everyone can do it; you could be working out with a 60 year old to the right of you, a kid to the left of you, and a pregnant woman behind you. Even if you’ve never worked out a day in your life, you can walk into the CCF doors and feel like you belong.
