How Can CrossFit Training Help With Stress?

Stress is measured through hormones and produced by the adrenal glands.  With today’s worries and our clients working long hours, it’s a certainty that many individuals cope with more and more stress every day. In this post, we wanted to let you know how to recognize stress and provide you with a few ways to de-stress your body – and most importantly how crossfit training helps. Additionally we wanted to share a reminder that stress can often be a precursor for depression.

Some signs that you are stressed

  • sleep difficulties
  • loss of appetite
  • poor concentration
  • uncharacteristic errors
  • angry or emotional outbursts
  • antisocial behavior
  • alcohol and drug abuse

CrossFit training can help you de-stress by providing you with a healthy outlet that gets you moving and, in turn, delivers benefits that are immediate and powerful.  Exercise produces positive biochemical effects that may provide the emotional change that you need.  Working out also provides you with the energy you need to feel better.  At Carolina Crossfit, the workouts are already designed for you, so there are no questions about what a member should do at the gym today to remain active.  All of the tough thinking and planning has been prepared for you.

Encouragement is also provided to give you the support you need to make it through the workout and to push you to challenge yourself. We help you to break away from antisocial tendencies and work with you to release emotions, anger, and stress during each workout. Our gym is no stranger to the use of humor as well and we all know that a good laugh can literally change the biochemistry of our brain as well as our perception of the world and what’s going on around us.

A common solution for reducing stress may be as simple as increasing your water intake.  Dehydration is not always recognized, but can cause many physical and emotional problems.  The human body depends on water to ensure it is functioning properly.  Don’t forget sleep is also very important, because it recharges and energizes you while wiping out the impressions of unpleasant feelings.  When sleep is disturbed, it may affect all areas of your life – and your ability to cope with daily stressors.

The next time you’re feeling stressed, try using the acronym HALT, which stands for Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired.  Each of these things can change your physical and emotional state, which can cause or make you feel stress.  So, the next time you are feeling like you are off-kilter, try working through these items to better recognize what’s going on inside your body and mind – and don’t forget to prioritize your workout in order to help you de-stress with a healthy outlet.
