Give us a little background about yourself.
I grew up in Columbia. Went to college in DC. Moved to Texas. Lived in London, England then a little village in Scotland, back to Texas then moved to Oklahoma. Finally moved back home to Columbia.
College major was chemistry, received a PhD in Environmental Sciences from UTD. Worked for the Corp of Engineers & taught Chemistry at a small college in Claremore, OK. After moving back to Columbia made a radical career change and made real estate sales my new career. Have been helping people buy or sell homes since 1986. Don't plan on stopping any time soon. Oh by the way, I'm never too busy for any of your referrals.
How did you hear about CCF?
My son Phillip was working out Carolina Crossfit and said I should try it. He showed me some Crossfit Videos, which scared me to death - almost. After much resistance, I decided to meet this Paul guy. So here I am. It was a good decision, a very good decision.
What's one thing most people don’t know about you?
I also have a business coach. Physical health as a top priority for me and that is why I have chosen the Crossfit Gym with the best coaches. I believe business coaching with the best real estate coach helps me provide my clients with the best possible service. I believe to be the best that you can be in any aspect coaching is definitely the way to go.
What music can we find currently playing in your car?
Classical generally but I like most all kinds of music. Mostly, though you would find personal growth or motivational CDs playing in my car.
What current things are you working toward when it comes to your health, training, career or personal life? Staying as strong and mobile as possible. I really enjoy my real estate business and do not want to stop anytime soon. It is a stressful business & Crossfit is a perfect solution to dealing with the stress. Keeping healthy & fit to enjoy and watch my grands & great grands grow up. Staying out of a nursing home in my old, old age.
Tell us about your most memorable workout from CCF
Greatest accomplishment -
Back when I joined, the first week routine was a killer. I was so sore I could hardly sit down or walk much less squat. I am very proud that I was able to get through that first week and then came back for more. I think you need to know that I was, until recently, CCF's most senior member. I'm proud of the fact that I can do things most 70+ year old folks would think impossible.
This has nothing to do with a memorable workout but it is something I would like you to know. I recently had shoulder surgery to remove bone spurs and repair a torn rotator cuff. Paul worked with me prior to surgery. With his trainer's knowledge he was able to help me strengthen the shoulder without causing further injury. The result is that the speed of my recovery has not only astounded my physical therapist but also the surgeon. I am way ahead of schedule. I dare anyone to say that Crossfit is not for everyone.
What would you tell someone who is interested in Training with CCF?
It is the way to go. Every day is different - no boredom. The Carolina Crossfit coaches are great & seem to get better all the time. And there is no age limit - everybody can do the WOD with modifications. But I will say, you must be selective in picking the right Crossfit gym. They are not all equal. I travel a good bit & always try to find a Crossfit facility to workout. I have seen the good, the bad & the ugly. Carolina Crossfit is the best of the best. Paul makes sure he has the best coaches & trainers who are committed to excellence. Come on, give it a try - it will be a decision you will not regret. My slogan is "It is NEVER TOO LATE". Now come on & get started.
