Kids Summer Program




“Is it a good idea to have my kids work out?”  “Won’t they get injured or hurt?”  “I already have them in soccer or gymnastics.”  “Will it stunt their growth?”  I have heard these questions frequently, both as a soccer and volleyball coach and as a CrossFit Kids coach.


Fun, structured, supervised exercise is safe, physically and intellectually beneficial, and is a fantastic corollary to sport-specific activity and unstructured play.  At Carolina CrossFit we believe having your kids work out in the right atmosphere can promote a healthy lifestyle.  Are we training your 10-year-old to snatch 135 pounds? No, not exactly.  (Although we’re laying the groundwork for more advanced movements and heavier weight once he or she gets older!)  We are training them for every day tasks that involve functional movement, like picking up heavy objects (i.e., carrying in the groceries), carrying loads on their backs (i.e., backpacks), pushing a heavy loaded object (i.e., mowing the lawn), having good posture, and even teaching them how to make good food choices!


Why is this more important now than ever? Did you know that childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years? The percentage of children aged 6–11 in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period. All told, in 2012, more than one-third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese.


Those statistics are startling and they highlight the need to teach our children at an early age that working out and eating healthy can be fun.


Not only do our KidsFit workouts promote a healthy lifestyle and everyday movements, they also enhance your child’s athleticism and performance, whether in soccer, dance, baseball, or golf.  When creating our kids workouts, we incorporate movements, skills, and games designed to improve your child’s strength, speed, accuracy, agility, balance, coordination, endurance, flexibility, power, and stamina.  Improvement in any (or all!) of these fitness domains will result in overall improvement to your child’s athletic ability.


You may think, “Why would I pay for my child to run around and exercise?”  Well, there’s a lot more to it than just wearing your kid out for an evening. We believe that promoting a healthy lifestyle through our KidsFit classes is not a just a short-term benefit, but rather is a life-long investment.   When your child realizes that keeping himself or herself healthy can be fun, that is priceless.  Would you buy your child expensive shoes or clothing? How about paying top dollar for the newest gaming system?  Instead, why not invest in your child’s health, and allow them to have fun in the process.
